Trooper’s life began under dire circumstances, being born in an orchard in a rural area with no shelter other than some pieces of plywood to hide under.  There was no protection from bad storms, torrential rains, hot or cold weather; and there was very little defense against wild animals. A Good Samaritan had found the family of dogs by accident when the litter was newly born, but could not get to the puppies for quite some time. Trooper’s only family was a large pack of dogs until he was four months old.

SSRR was able to rescue Trooper and he was immediately taken for his very first vet exam.  His belly was very bloated; this poor boy had every worm and parasite imaginable, as well as some other infections.  He was treated and then on his way to living a healthy life.

Trooper has thrived living in his foster home. For a puppy who had never known the comforts of being indoors, he quickly decided that he likes luxury living! He gets along with all dogs; he loves playing with the other four Rottweilers in his foster home, and he often attends doggy daycare where he plays with even more dogs.  Trooper has decided that his official duty is to protect the homefront against the terrorist squirrels and possums who dare attempt the invasion of his yard…and he takes his job very seriously.

Trooper is 8 months old. He is housebroken and crate trained. There are no children living in his foster home; but with his temperament he should be just fine with kids. However, he is not a good match with cats.  Prior to being rescued, Trooper had learned from his pack how to hunt small animals to survive. Due to this instinct, as well as his current obsession with squirrels and possums, indications are that if a furry critter runs, he will likely chase. Trooper was born with Entropion in both eyes, which is a very painful condition where his eyelashes were rubbing against his eyes.  In July, he had eye surgery by an Ophthalmologist in Houston; surgery was a complete success and his eyes are as good as new.  He has been neutered and is up to date on all vaccines.

Trooper is a wonderful puppy. Despite not being born around humans, he quickly learned that he enjoys the attention and companionship of people.  He has a very sweet and gentle personality, and a calm demeanor (until the terrorist squirrels and possums appear).

SSRR is extremely protective of all of our rescues, but in particular we strive to be sure that puppies are raised properly to avoid any future behavior problems. Trooper will be adopted to a home where he'll get plenty of love and attention, as well as exercise and training—everything that is needed for him to develop into a socialized and well-behaved adult.

The adoption donation fee for puppies is $300 and is a tax-deductible donation to SSRR, which is  a 501(c)3. Trooper is up to date on vaccines and worming. He is too young to be neutered and will have to be neutered when age-appropriate (approx. 6 months). SSRR will provide a flat fee reimbursement to be applied to the cost of the neuter.  Any excess cost (some vet fees are much higher than others) can be allocated as a tax deductible donation.
