Hi! My name is Tara. I'm a beautiful, 70 pound, super smart girl (or so my foster mom tells me) who loves to go on walks, play with my toys, and get lots of rubs and love. I also really enjoy running around in the back yard, and even though I'm not a puppy, I have plenty of playful goofiness in me that makes my foster mom laugh. I love making her laugh, it just makes me feel good. She tells me I'm a pretty silly girl. But, don't worry, I'm not all energy. I can keep up with you if you want to walk or run, but I also am happy relaxing and being a couch potato, too. Either way works for me as long as I'm with my human. Also, I absolutely LOVE affection and give the best hugs. My foster mom says I will make someone a wonderful companion.

You see, I was treated really terribly the first few years of my life. I spent all my lonely days and nights tied to a chain with no one to give me affection or love me. I was very, very sad. Then these nice people came and saved me. I heard my old "owners" were so bad that they actually broke the law. You're not supposed to treat animals like that, so they got in big, big trouble. I'm so thankful that I was saved, though, I'm one really lucky girl. Despite all the tough times I've had in the past, do you want to know all the good things about me? Well, I'll tell you! I already know lots of commands. I know sit, down, give paw (both of them), back, and am really gentle when I take treats from anyone's hands. I also have no food aggression or resource guarding. I'm crate trained and walk pretty well on the leash, too. Sometimes I get excited to smell all the awesome smells, so I forget my manners, but I'm working on it. Of course, I'm also house broken. I know I said this already, but I'm really, really good at giving hugs and love. My favorite thing to do is to snuggle. My foster mom says I am the most affectionate dog she's ever met.

Since I spent so much time being mistreated, I am a bit fearful and nervous in new situations and when meeting new people and dogs. But, I have been trying really hard to be a good girl, and my foster mom says I'm making great progress. She says people just need to be calm and gentle when they approach me, and it's easier for me to be the good girl I am. I get stressed when there is lots of high energy, but I'm working on getting better about that. No cats for me, though, I just love to chase them. I also need to be around older children since the itty bitty ones scare me.

I currently live with three other dogs, two boys and a girl. I love going on walks with them! I also live with two human foster brothers who are 11 and 14 and think they are just great. They talk to me every morning while they eat breakfast, and I think that's just grand. I like giving them lots of hugs, too.

I'm still looking for my forever home, so please apply to adopt me! I promise I will be loyal and love you forever and ever. As my foster mom says, after all I've been through, I deserve the best life ever and am a true rescue story.

(Tara will do best in a quieter home with no cats and older kid-if there are kids in the family. If she goes to a home with dogs, she will need to be introduced very slowly, but we can help with that and have had good success getting her to settle in with other dogs. She will need an owner with breed experience and/or experience helping dogs build confidence to overcome fear. She truly is a wonderful dog, and whoever is lucky enough to adopt her will have an awesome companion).
