Ryder (formerly known as Chop) is approximately 1-year-old. He was found as a stray and a nice woman in south Texas cared for him in her garage until SSRR was able to pull him into the program. Ryder immediately went to our vets to be neutered and have surgery for Entropian, a genetic condition in which a portion of the eyelid is inverted or folded inward.

Following surgery, this 100-lb. pup went to a foster home to heal. He lives with two rescued female Rottweilers and two small children. His true personality became evident within one week of recovery and perhaps being pain-free for the first time in his life. Ryder can also see for the first time and he’s extremely inquisitive and curious about all household activities. He is incredibly smart and energetic. He uses his paws as hands and can open doors and loves to give awesome hugs. He is always ready to cuddle and sit on a lap, regardless if he fits or not.

Ryder is an awesome dog and thrives being part of a pack (human and canine). He has settled well with his two- and four-legged family, always ready to run and play, often taking the downward dog pose while one of his rottie foster sisters wrestles him to the ground. He is a submissive boy when approached by people he knows. After a quick pet, he will fall to the floor and roll over for belly rubs.

Ryder has obviously had a rough start in his young life, with many scars and lacerations covering his body. He also has thick scar tissue around his neck indicative of an imbedded collar or thick chain. Despite being abused, he loves people and is affectionate and wants to please. He is scared of cars and loud noises, which cause him to freeze or bark. He currently gets 3 short leash walks a day to let him know the world can be a safe, fun place instead of the scary experiences he previously endured.

His foster family is working on teaching this boy basic manners, such as not eating off the kitchen counters. He is a quick learner and in true Rottie fashion, always eager to please. Ryder would do great in a home with other dogs and with humans who are dedicated to continuous exercise and training. He will not be adopted to a family with children younger that 12 years, due to his size and his love of playing.
