Meet Elmira, a 4.5-year-old female Rottweiler currently in Jacksonville, Florida, who is searching for a new foster home! Elmira is a bundle of joy—funny, goofy, and incredibly loving. She’s been living with her foster mom and three other dogs, 2 Rotties and a small Terrier, but now she needs a new place to land.

Elmira absolutely loves playing with her toys and is happiest when she’s snuggled up in her foster mom’s lap, soaking up all the body rubs she can get. She loves her treats and patiently sits waiting for her turn. She is also a very fast eater, so she will require a slow feeder bowl. However, she has no food aggression as she allows her bowl to be removed while eating.

When it is time to go to sleep, Elmira will go to her kennel quickly, encouraged by a treat. She does not tear up her bedding and prefers a toy or two while in bed. She has also stayed at the local Doggie Resort several times and has been a perfect dog, interacting with lots of other campers and people.

When out and about in the car, Elmira enjoys being the co-pilot, but she can get a little too excited when motorcycles go by. She walks well in her harness but requires correction when she starts to pull.

We don’t know exactly what Elmira has been through during her life as she came to us from a shelter. She may have experienced past abuse and does not like situations where she feels trapped with no way out. Like many other dogs, it is best that she is muzzled for Vet appointments.

Elmira seems to be very protective of her current foster mom and her home. Elmira tends to bark and become worked up when strangers are present either inside the house near her foster mom or outside the door. This reaction could be her way of expressing alertness and possibly protecting her family. Her foster family has noted that she is especially vocal and energetic during these times, which is important for potential fosters to consider when welcoming her into a new environment.

Due to this, Elmira requires a foster parent who is a strong leader, willing to work with Elmira and take her to training class. Training will be a requirement! It is also recommended that she goes to a home with no small children as she should have a quieter environment.

Let’s help Elmira find the loving foster family she deserves
